Experience an ayahuasca dieta in the Amazon jungle in Peru

Why do a dieta?

Experience healing, detoxification, clarity,

and evolution of your consciousness

What is a dieta?

The ayahuasca dieta is a 10-day experience, deep in the Amazon jungle, with five ayahuasca ceremonies, and the time, space and atmosphere to get profound insights on what has been blocking you and what you can do to heal and evolve. It is an opportunity of a lifetime to release burdens that are no longer yours to carry, restore your confidence, and discover new gifts and ways to express yourself.

This experience is in every way an initiation. It requires self-discipline and entails some personal discomfort, stepping out of your comfort zones. It also reaps huge rewards. This medicine has been practiced for thousands of years by the Amazonian people. Ayahuasca is considered a master plant teacher, and one that kept jungle communities healthy and spiritually sound. This experience is a community-minded experience. This voyage requires a healthy respect for self, others, the teachers, the staff and the environment. It requires self-autonomy, too.

Don Jose Campos has taught the world over, but remains convinced that the Dieta, the integral experience in this healing work, is best experienced in the Amazonian forest. It is here that Ayahuasca is ‘at home’ and in the jungle, we are taught by a thriving living pulsing natural world where we understand the diversity and interaction that links us all to our natural world and to each other.

What is ayahuasca ?

Ayahuasca has been used for thousands of years by traditional medicine healers in spiritual ceremonies. The therapeutic effects have been particularly noted in treating addiction, depression, stress, trauma, and loss. In some cases, people have reported being healed from physical ailments and diseases as well.

As Don Jose explains, Ayahuasca, also called the Vine of the Soul, or the Vine of Death, allows us to deeply and intuitively understand the root causes for our physical and psycho-spiritual malaise and joy. From this point of view, its value cannot be underestimated. We learn to heal ourselves and evolve through the insights the plant provides.

We can visit both our lightness and our dark, and are given an extraordinary personal and intimate way of knowing and loving ourselves more fully.

Ayahuasca is a combination of two plants:

the Ayahuasca Vine (Banisteriopsis Caapi) and Chacruna (Psychotria Viridis). The Ayahuasca Vine contains alkaloids, specifically harmine, harmaline and tetrahydroharmine which are MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors. The chacruna plant is a synergist and contains DMT, dimethyltryptamine, a serotonergic receptor agonist. The visionary element of the experience, DMT, is not active if orally ingested without Ayahuasca because it is destroyed by the MAO enzymes in the GI tract. Because of the inhibiting action, the DMT can break the blood-brain barrier and penetrate the circulatory system, which produces hallucinogenic effects, or healing visions, by stimulating the pineal gland, also known as the “third eye”.

About Centro Munay

Centro Munay is a beautiful and private retreat center, located deep in the Ucayali Region of the Peruvian Amazon, created for spiritual healing and inner exploration.

The center consists of a central service area with a kitchen, a large “Maloca”, or common area where the ayahuasca ceremonies are held, and riverside tambos (huts). The tambos are single occupancy only for healing purposes. Most of the tambos are located approximately 25 meters from each other with little or no visual contact between them.

Munay is devoted to providing an authentic experience of personal inner healing and self discovery.

During your stay you may find that solitude is a spiritual gem to be explored, however there are plenty of opportunities to explore conversations among the guests and the loving staff. While enjoying your stay you can expect to experience solitude, reading, writing, meditation, music making, compassionate dialogue, and plenty of walking and swimming on the rustic trails and the beautiful river that runs along and through the campsite.

Many participants bring audio visual equipment to document their experience between the scheduled group events. The staff members under the direction of Don Jose are deeply devoted to making your journey with Munay safe, joyous, and deeply rewarding. You will leave Munay positively transformed in a manner that you may have never imagined possible.

About Don Jose Campos

Don José has been working with Ayahuasca plant medicine for over four decades. His presence within the circle as a healer, musician and leader is rare and precious. He remains one of the most experienced, serious, and joyful medicine men of the soul. His main teacher was Don Solón of Iquitos (1918 – 2010), also known for his gentleness, humility and grace, but he studied with over 120 master curanderos throughout South America during his formative years.

Don José is characterized by immense gratitude and humility. He doesn’t consider himself to be above anyone else in the ceremony. “We are all here to learn how to become better people,” he often says. He commonly invites others to sing or recite a poem in the ceremony. He loves being a part of helping others to discover their gifts. In the words of Jeremy Narby, author and PhD: “Don Jose Campos has a free spirit, a generous heart, and deep knowledge about Amazonian plants, in particular about the shamanic brew ayahuasca. […] He speaks from experience, and champions simplicity and humility.” Don José, along with his team of hard-working, kind-hearted people who work at Centro  Munay, create an atmosphere of trust, integrity and loving kindness that allows you to go deep with the medicine in an unprecedented way.

Munay means to love unconditionally
